June 2026

We are beginning a very special time of year at Islip Middle School; the energy throughout the building is incredible as students reflect on their accomplishments, celebrate milestones, and look forward to the exciting events that mark the end of another successful school year.

Last week, we had the privilege of recognizing many of our students at our Awards Night. Congratulations to all of the students who demonstrated academic excellence through their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to learning. We are proud of their achievements and grateful to the families and staff members who support them along the way.

Next week brings one of our students’ favorite traditions- Field Days! Our schedule is as follows:
June 8th: 8th Grade (8th grade students will receive their yearbooks at a breakfast this day)
June 9th: 7th Grade
June 10th: 6th Grade
6th and 7th grade students who ordered yearbooks will receive them in their advisory. A special thank you to our PTA for generously providing lunch for students during each day. Students are encouraged to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, long sleeves, and water bottles to stay comfortable throughout the day. They may also bring blankets, towels, and handheld games for downtime between activities. Sports equipment will be provided.

We will also hold our final Renaissance Raffle of the school year next week as we continue to celebrate the many students who consistently demonstrate positive behavior, responsibility, and commitment to our school community.

As a reminder, our final day of regularly scheduled classes will be June 16, and our final exam schedule will begin on June 17. As students prepare for their exams, I would also like to remind families and students about the appropriate use of artificial intelligence (AI). AI should only be used when specifically permitted by a teacher and should never serve as a substitute for a student's own learning, thinking, and effort. While AI can be a helpful tool for studying, reviewing concepts, or practicing skills when used appropriately, the goal is always to support learning—not replace it. Please take a moment to review the attached letter for more detailed information regarding our school's expectations for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Finally, our 8th Grade Dance will be held on Thursday, June 18. This event is always a memorable opportunity for our students to celebrate together as they prepare for the exciting transition to high school.
We look forward to the many end-of-year events that are still ahead and to the continued opportunities to learn and connect with one another. Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support. Together, we continue to make IMS a place where we are always Welcoming, Connecting, and Learning.
Wishing everyone a wonderful month of June!

Sincerely,

June 2026

Islip families,

As we enter June, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation for a truly wonderful year. Our students, staff, and families make IMS an exceptional place to spend the day. It's a community, that I am proud to be part of it. The PTA deserves special recognition for their generosity, dedication, and constant support. Although the end of the school year is quickly approaching, this is the moment to stay focused and ensure that all the hard work, care, and effort you’ve invested prepares you for final exams and, where applicable, Regent's exams. June is a time for celebration and reflection, but it is also a reminder to finish strong.

To our eighth graders, you have been extraordinary and will be deeply missed. Please know that IMS will always be a place you can return. It is home where you will always be welcomed and remembered. As you move on to high school, embrace every opportunity, work hard, enjoy the big and small moments, and begin shaping the path that will lead you toward your future goals. For updates, photos, and highlights of the amazing things happening at IMS, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Our new Google Site also provides up‑to‑date information to help you navigate your time here, and if any questions arise, feel free to reach out to me at cjuengereks@islipufsd.org or call (631) 650‑8515.

Always remember, "Take care of the SMALL stuff; the BIG things will take care of themselves."

Be Sure to Always, Always, Enjoy.

Bodner's Bulletin

June 2026

Dear IMS community:

As we move into the final month of the school year, we want to take a moment to reflect on an exciting and successful May at Islip Middle School. Our students, staff, and families had so much to celebrate, and we are proud of the many accomplishments and experiences that brought our school community together.

Our Middle School athletic teams wrapped up successful spring seasons, demonstrating teamwork, dedication, and school pride throughout the year. We also enjoyed wonderful performances from our talented students during the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band, orchestra, and chorus concerts. Their hard work and commitment were evident in each performance, and we thank our music teachers and families for their continued support. We also celebrated the Islip School District Festival of the Arts.

May also included several memorable student experiences and celebrations. Our 7th graders participated in our first annual overnight trip to Boston, where students explored historical landmarks, strengthened friendships, and created lasting memories.

In addition, we proudly inducted new members into the National Junior Honor Society, recognizing students for their academic achievement, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.

Supporting student wellness also remained a priority throughout the month. Students participated in a variety of mental health and wellness activities designed to promote positivity, connection, and balance during this busy time of year. We are grateful to our counselors, staff members, and community partners who helped make these opportunities meaningful for our students.

As we begin the month of June, we look forward to celebrating the many accomplishments and experiences that have made this school year so meaningful at Islip Middle School. The month will begin with our IMS Awards Ceremony and the EXCEL Program end-of-year celebration, recognizing the hard work, growth, and achievements of our students. Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will also participate in Field Day activities, while our 8th graders will enjoy their much-anticipated 8th Grade Dance as they prepare for the transition to high school.

As we bring the school year to a close at Islip Middle School, we extend our best wishes to all students and families for continued success during this important final stretch. With end-of-year events and final exams coming up, we encourage students to stay focused, confident, and proud of all they have learned and accomplished. We are grateful for the ongoing partnership of our families and community, and we wish everyone the very best as we finish the year strong together.

Sincerely,

David Bodner

Counselors Corner

June 2026

The counseling department spent much of the last month meeting with students to help ease anxieties surrounding upcoming transitions. Our 8th grade students also had the opportunity to meet with students from our high school’s Buccaneer University program! During their visit, students learned more about high school life and what to expect over the next four years.

June is shaping up to be an exciting month filled with end-of-year events and celebrations, including grade-level field days, the 8th grade breakfast, yearbook distribution, and the moving-up dance! Attention 8th graders: please remember to purchase your dance ticket by June 11th.

Schedules for next year’s classes will be available at the end of August through the Infinite Campus Portal. Families are encouraged to make sure they can successfully access their portal accounts ahead of time. If you have any questions regarding your child’s courses for next year, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s counselor. Counselors will remain available in the office through the end of June.

As Regents and final exams approach, students should review the testing schedule posted on the IMS Google site. Students taking Regents exams are reminded to leave cell phones at home, as possession of a phone during testing will invalidate exam scores. Be sure to also review the helpful study tips available to help prepare for Regents and final exams.

We wish all of our students and families a wonderful, relaxing, and safe summer, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in September!

Warmly,
The IMS School Counseling Team
